Meetings of WG3 were held in Barcelona (May 2002) and Montréal (August 2002). In addition, regular discussion has been conducted on the WG3 mailing list (see archives). A website has also been established at www.isotopicmaps.org/.
SMDL was approved as an IS in March 1997 but preparation of a final text was held off in anticipation of revisions to HyTime. A decision has to be taken by SC34 on whether to (1) publish the balloted text immediately as is, (2) have the text updated and published in the very near future, (3) withdraw the standard and cancel the project.
An amendment and a TC are in the pipeline, but no progress has been made since 1998. (See N1985 and N1988.) A decision has to be taken by SC34 on whether to (1) complete these tasks, or (2) withdraw them.
A Defect Report was submitted by Japan in October 2002 (see N337). A Defect's Editor needs to be appointed.
The Topic Map TC has been finalized and is being published as a 2nd Edition by the Central Secretariat.
A TC for a Conceptual Model was approved in May 2001. It was intended that Annex B of the XTM Specification should be submitted as a working draft (N185), but this has so far not happened. SC34 has to decide how to proceed on this TC in the light of the updated plan for the further development of the topic map standard.
Current work is focusing on the development of a Reference Model and a Standard Application Model in accordance with the Guide to the topic map standards (see N323). Discussion at the WG3 meetings in Barcelona and Montréal focused on the SAM, for which a new draft will be published prior to the Baltimore meeting (see the editors' working copy). A first draft of the RM was delivered in November 2002 (see N344).
At the moment the work on the SAM and RM has no formal status. SC34 has to take a position on whether to start a formal PDAM process, which will result in a new amendment to ISO 13250.
Version 1.0 of the User Requirements for TMQL was delivered in August 2001 (see N249). TMQL was then put on hold until progress had been made on the Topic Map data model. Given the mature state of the Standard Application Model, TMQL can now be progressed. The Requirements should be reviewed in the light of the current SAM draft and a timetable should be drawn up for further work.
Draft User Requirements for TMCL were published in June 2001 (see N226). TMCL was then put on hold until progress had been made on the Topic Map data model and TMQL. A timetable should now be drawn up for further work.
A final text of the Technical Corrigendum to ISO-HTML was released in March 2002 and has been published.
