WG1's primary activities during this meeting were:
1) Completion of final text for IS 13673, Information Technology Document Processing and Related Communication Conformance Testing for Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) Systems
2) Design of a modified notation for presenting the syntax of SGML to be used in the revision of ISO 8879. The notation is based on the three-level model established at the Granada meeting, which recognizes three components of an SGML parser: a lexical analyzer, a markup analyzer, and a structure analyzer. Each layer produces outputs that are input to the layer above it, with the output of the structure analyzer being input to the grove construction process. Each layer can also change the state of the layers below it. Only the structure analyzer accesses the DTD.
Expected contributions to the next WG1 meeting include testing the proposed notation to express a significant part of the syntax of SGML.
