RESOLUTIONS OF THE WG5 MEETING
ON MAY 9 TO 13, 2005 IN DELFT, NETHERLANDS
The meeting was attended by the convenor and 20 members, representing
six member bodies. Resolutions D1 to D10 were approved by unanimous
consent, D11 and D12 by unanimous acclaim.
D1. Internationalization Policy
That WG5 adopts WG5-N1619 as its internationalization policy.
D2. Varying Length Strings
That WG5 directs its convenor to inform SC22 that, for the SC22 2005
Systematic Review of Standards, WG5 considers that Part 2 of the
Fortran International Standard (Varying Length Strings) should be
confirmed with the anticipation that it be withdrawn in the subsequent
five-year systematic review.
D3. Editorship of Part 1 of the Fortran Standard
That WG5 directs its convenor to request SC22 to appoint Malcolm Cohen
as Project Editor for Part 1 of the Fortran standard, succeeding
Richard Maine. Further, WG5 thanks Richard Maine for his exemplary
work as editor.
D4. Fortran 2003 Technical Corrigendum 1
That WG5 adopts WG5-N1636, suitably modified to ISO documentation
standards, as Technical Corrigendum 1 for Fortran 2003.
D5. Fortran 2003 Defect Report
That WG5 directs its convenor to prepare the first Defect Report for
Fortran 2003.
D6. Content of the revised Fortran standard
That WG5 assigns priorities of items in the requirements document
WG5-N1626 to be as follows:
must be implemented : J3-001, J3-003, J3-010, J3-013, J3-019, J3-020,
J3-027, J3-039(& RU-001), J3-043(modified as in j3/05-186), J3-044,
J3-046, RU-003(modified as in WG5-N1638), UK-001(modified as in
j3/05-183r1), UK-002, UK-005, UK-007;
to be implemented if time permits : J3-008, J3-009, J3-012, J3-014
(modified as in j3/05-185r1), J3-015, J3-018, J3-022, J3-023(modified
as in j3/05-189), J3-024(& RU-002), J3-038, J3-041, J3-042,
J3-047(modified as in j3/05-188), J3-048, RU-005(modified as in
WG5-1637), UK-003, UK-008, UK-009;
not to be pursued : J3-007, J3-011, J3-017, J3-021, J3-031, J3-036,
J3-037, J3-040, J3-045, J3-049, RU-004, UK-010;
other items remain to have priorities allocated.
D7. Revision of Requirements Repository
That WG5 directs the editor of the requirements repository to produce
a revised version to reflect the decisions made at this meeting.
D8. Strategic Plan
That WG5 reaffirms the schedule for the revision of Fortran 2003
which is contained in WG5-N1590.
D9. Priority of Maintenance and Development
That WG5 places higher priority on development of the required work
items than on maintenance activities, and places higher priority on
maintenance activities than on development of the optional work
items.
D10. Future Meetings
That WG5 appreciates the tentative offer to hold the February 2006
WG5 meeting at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA and welcomes
further investigation of the possibilities.
Further, WG5 welcomes the invitation of the UK member body to hold
the July/August 2007 WG5 meeting in London, UK.
D11. Vote of Thanks for Support
That WG5 thanks NEN (E.J. van der Feen, A.E. van Bergeijk and
P.A. van Rijsinge) for generously providing the meeting room and
for providing lunches for the participants at the meeting.
D12. Vote of Thanks
That WG5 wishes to express its appreciation to the convenor (John
Reid), the secretaries (Steve Morgan and Ian Chivers), the librarian
(Aleksandar Donev) and the drafting committee (chaired by David
Muxworthy) for their contributions to the success of the meeting.
It wishes especially to thank the hosts (Matthijs van Waveren and
Toon Moene) for the excellent arrangements for both the business
and social parts of the meeting.
