Hotel: Monterey Marriott 350 Calle Principal Monterey, California 93940 Reservations: 1-408-649-4234 Room Rates: $110 (+ 10% tax) Group Name: ISO C++ (Sun Microsystems) Cutoff Date: 16 June 1995 Parking Rates: $10/day Transportation: The Monterey airport is fairly small; the only carriers who fly into it are United Airlines and American Eagle. The taxicab ride is a $7 ride. If you decide to fly in to San Jose or San Francisco, there is a shuttle service called "Monterey Airbus", which makes six round trips per day, leaving San Francisco between 7 A.M. and 9 P.M., and leaving San Jose between 8 A.M. and 10 P.M. They can be reached at (408)442-2877. Round trip prices are $45 from San Francisco, or $35 from San Jose. The drive from San Jose to Monterey takes about 90 minutes. Directions to the Marriott From the SF Bay Area: Take US-101 south to Prunedale, take Highway 156 west (there are signs for the "Monterey Peninsula") through Castroville, where it merges onto Highway 1 southbound. Take the Del Monte/ Pacific Grove exit. At the seventh light, get into the left lane and continue on Del Monte to the hotel. Page 2 From the Monterey Peninsula Airport: Take the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf exit. At the first light, turn right onto Aquajito. Turn left onto Del Monte. At the third light, get into the left lane and continue on Del Monte to the hotel. Refreshments: The usual: caffeine and pastries in the morning, a mid-morning coffee break, and a mid-afternoon refreshment break. Dining and Entertainment: Three restaurants in the hotel, and a zillion more on Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row. Recreation: Outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, exercise room, jogging trail. Places to see: The rocky coastline along Monterey Bay is rather dramatic, and there is a jogging/bicycle trail along it. Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, and the Aquarium are all nearby. Monterey was once California's capital. There are several historical buildings within a few blocks of the hotel. Fairly short drives will take you to Carmel, Point Lobos, Point Pinos, Jack's Peak Park, the "17-Mile Drive", and several scenic beaches. The Big Sur coast is about an hour away.
