The claim that J3 is, has been the only X3 committee with which the
ISO WGs have had problems is simply untrue. There have been problems with
most of the important X3Jx committees in recent years. C was a a source
of much international unhappiness for many similar reasons, al beit not
so vocal as Fortran. The PL/1 saga was not pretty. Lisp is currently
distinctly unhappy. COBOL appears to be on a reasonably smooth path.
I think there is sufficient disquiet in the international arena about
the attitude and procedures of X3 to suggest that X3 might just look at
why it is viewed so negatively in the rest of the world.
