From: J. Martin, Acting Convenor
Subject: Content of Fortran 95

At its 131st meeting, X3J3 voted 15-3 to inform the WG5 Convenor (as per
Edinburgh resolution 14) that two of the additional requested items (ENABLE
construct and allocatable arrays as structure components) did not have
approved proposals and could not be completed in the time established for
submitting the Fortran 95 draft for CD ballot.

The WG5 Management Committee was contacted as specified in E14, and the
decision is to proceed with Fortran 95 without these two features. Germany
suggested a delay of one year to incorporate a simplified exception
handling capability only, but all others expressed the desire to proceed
with the time schedule in the strategic plan. Canada suggested that the
date for Fortran 2000 be moved earlier to standardize some important
features such as these two and possibly parameterized derived types. We
can discuss this alternative in Tokyo.
