Subject: Validation
X-Charset: ASCII
X-Char-Esc: 29

The first successful independent validation of Fortran 90
compilers has occurred. The validated compilers are
Fujitsu Fortran 90 and Edinburgh Portable Compilers
Fortran 90. Both compilers run on SPARC workstations
(Solaris 1 or 2) and the EPC compiler runs on other Unix
workstations, also.

Of course, no compiler will ever be completely bug free, but
the validation process ensures that every feature of Fortran 90
is compiled and executed correctly. This includes verification
that standard Fortran 77 programs are processed correctly and
that all of the new Fortran 90 features--array processing,
modules, recursion, structures, pointers, and procedure
interfaces--are implemented correctly.

If you would like information about the validation process,
please contact me. For information about the compilers,
