From: J. Martin, Convenor
Subject: Convenorship

My current 3-year term as Convenor of WG5 expires in October, 1994. I will
not be reapplying for another term. ANSI requires that an application be
accompanied by a statement of management support for a term of 3 years, and
my management feels they cannot make this commitment at this time; however
they are anxious that transition to a new Convenor be as smooth as possible
so I will be available to advise the new Convenor. I will continue to be
supported in my standards work for Fortran, but just not as Convenor of WG5.

The US JTC1 TAG will issue a new call for volunteers for a US candidate with
the hope that a replacement for me can be found before the SC22 meeting,
September 19-23. I plan to attend that meeting as WG5's representative.
As you know from N1012, SC22 is having difficulty replacing Canada as their
Secretariat. Some contingency plan may be put in place if this is not
resolved.

None of this should effect the Edinburgh WG5 meeting. We have a number of
important decisions to make that bear on the future of Fortran.
