Without getting into the merits of this proposal, I'd like to take issue with Lawrie's use of the words "votes" and "decisions". To the best of my recollection, the only formal vote X3J3 has taken on the various versions of the parameterized derived type proposal was the one at meeting 129 recommending that it not be pursued for Fortran 95. All the other "votes" were straw votes, which by definition do not imply any commitment to a particular approach. Thus, X3J3 has thus far taken _no_ "technical decisions" on parameterized data types. -- Leonard J.
