Keith Bierman reported talking to many people who were not aware of LIA-1,
who when made aware of it were generally opposed to its goals but did not
have time to study it thoroughly and make carefully considered comments, but
who would almost certainly be affected if LIA-1 became a standard. Although
I was not among those Keith talked to, I fit this description.

My only exposure to LIA-1 has been the comments sent to the NCEG mailing
list. Those comments have been well reasoned and supported, they have been
from responsible and well informed people I respect, and they have been
strongly against adopting LIA-1 as a standard of any kind. These comments
convinced me that the LIA-1 effort should be allowed to die, and should
not be adopted as a standard. (Keith's point that "allowed to die" is hardly
a real possibility, much less the default, is indeed a serious structural
problem.)

I would like my silence up to this point to be clearly interpreted as
agreement with these arguments AGAINST adopting LIA-1 as a standard.
