WG9 does most of its work through electronic mail and document
distribution so I thought the same method would be appropriate
here to discuss two documents in particular.

The revision of Ada (what we have been calling Ada9X) is now
almost complete, document SC22 N 1383 is a paper copy of the
revision draft. A more recent copy can be obtained by anonymous
ftp from <ajpo.sei.cmu.edu> by switching to the directory
...ada9x/mrtcomments/rm9x/v3.0. This particular computer has many
files about Ada and README files at most directory levels. If you
need any help, send me a direct message.

For the Paris meeting of SC22, besides the draft for ftp access,
I will have a PC disk version available of the then current
draft. WG9 has a meeting during the week of August 16-22, 1993,
to incorporate any comments received by that time. Please be sure
that any people interested in reviewing the revised Ada9X are
directed to me so that we can get them paper or electronic
copies.

WG9 has a number of issues it would like to have discussed at the
SC22 Plenary meeting. Most of these are outlined in SC22 N 1388 a
copy of which follows:

          the ISO Central Secretariat

work is proceeding, but with an uncertain target date

work is proceeding, but with an uncertain target date

Since this letter has turned out to be a summary of WG9's recent
activity, let me add four points:

1. WG9 meeting schedule and history (WG9 plans its meetings
   approximately a year in advance):

   previous meetings:
     30 March to 3 April 1992: Frankfurt/Dreieich, Germany
     5 June 1992: Zandvoort, Netherlands
     9-14 November 1992: Boston/Salem, Massachusetts
   upcoming meetings:
     18 June 1993: Paris, France
     16-20 August 1993: Boston, Massachusetts
     14-18 March 1994: Geneva/Villars, Switzerland

2. Countries participating in WG9 (* indicates usually
   attending):

Austria, Belgium*, Canada*, China*, Czechoslovakia, Denmark,
France*, Germany*, Hungary, Ireland, Japan*, Netherlands*,
Russia, Spain*, Sweden*, Switzerland*, UK*, and US*.

3. WG9 maintains active liaisons with:

   SC21/WG8, SC22/WG11, SC22/WG15, SC22/WG18, SC24/WG4

4. There are a number of other items WG9 would like placed on the
agenda of the SC22 Plenary:

   - Reappointment of Bob Mathis as the Convener of WG9. I think
(hope) ANSI will have all the proper paper work done to make
     this the US recommendation.

   - Appointment of Donald W. Sando (USA) as Project Editor on
Project 22.10.04 (Ada Complex Types and Functions) and
appointment of Jon S. Squire (USA) as Project Editor on
Project 22.10.05 (Ada Complex Elementary Functions). The
paperwork is also in process for these as well.

   - WG9 encourages the "Fast Track" approval of the POSIX Ada
Binding (IEEE P1000.5) which should come up for discussion
as part of the US National Activity Report, WG9's report, or
     WG15's report.

   - WG9 is interested in proposing a new work item for a FIMS
Ada Binding. We have not yet determined the participating
membership in our own working group and feel we must have
the same kind of commitment that JTC1 will eventually
require, but we felt it important to notify SC22 delegations
     before the Plenary.

   - WG9 is interested in proposing a new work item for a
technical report about styles and approaches to doing Ada
language bindings. This has grown out of our work on the SQL
binding in particular. Again we have not yet determined the
participating membership in our own working group and feel
we must have the same kind of commitment that JTC1 will
eventually require, but we felt it important to notify SC22
     delegations before the Plenary.

   - WG9 is in the process of revising SC22 N844, the MoU between
SC22/WG9 and the Ada9X Project Office. The primary purpose
is to adjust the dates to our current schedule.

   - WG9 has directed its Convener to reraise certain style
issues with SC22, JTC1, and the Central Secretariat; in
     particular, paragraph numbering.

You can see that WG9 has been pretty busy and now that's going to
move out to SC22 and JTC1.

Bob Mathis
Convener WG9 Ada
