It is said that all good things come to an end and it is with regret that
I announce that I will no longer participate in X3J3 and WG5 meetings.
Organizational changes by my employer and my own career path have meant
that over the last couple of years I have moved further and further away
from Fortran activities within Amdahl and it has become increasingly
difficult for me to justify the funding necessary for my attendance at the
meetings. (It is possible that later this year one of our Fortran
developers may join the committee.) I have submitted a letter of
resignation from X3J3 to Jerry Wagener, effective immediately, and I will
not attend either the WG5 meeting in Germany or the X3J3 meeting in
Belgium.

I have enjoyed the six years or so that I have worked with X3J3 and WG5. I
have made many friends and it is the people that I will miss most. I hope
that when any of you are in the San Francisco Bay area you will contact
me. Should either group meet here I hope to be able to attend the meeting.
I will ask Kurt to keep me on the email distribution lists. Despite my
lack of participation in the meetings you will hear from me from time to
time about issues with the next revision of Fortran.

Andrew D. Tait
