For those of you who were here for the WG5 meeting at Royal Roads last
July, I thought you might find the following items of some interest.

If you watched the recent Yeltsin-Clinton summit meeting on TV,
in particular the arrivals ceremony in Vancouver, note that the
Scarlet Honor Guard consisted of cadets from Royal Roads. They
were not, as variously reported by the media, trainees for the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or whatever.

It is also worth noting that Jeanne Adams is in very good company.
As seems to be common with visiting dignitaries, Pres. Yeltsin was
presented with a gift. It was a West Coast Indian Talking Stick,
which you may recall was our choice as a gift of appreciation to
Jeanne for her many years of effort on behalf of Fortran. (But I
wonder if they had any limit on their budget? :-) )

Finally, if you remember the warm, sunny days with which we were
blessed during the meeting, I should tell you that we just set a
record for the most days of rain ever in the month of April in Victoria.

Hope to see all of you in Berschtesgaden.

Bert
