Dear WG5,

The SC22 meeting went smoothly as far as WG5 is concerned. My report
(N1538) was accepted without discussion. Two actions were taken at my
request, both arising from SC22 papers sent out after the Dresden meeting:

1. Part 3 (Coco) comes up for its 5-year systematic review in February.
I asked for it to be confirmed, saying that it will need to modified for
Fortran 2003 or withdrawn, but I do not want us to spend time on this
just now. SC22 accepted this argument and confirmed it.

2. I realized that I was editor for part 2 (strings), which must be a
relic from the time that Lawrie was ill. I asked to be replaced by
Lawrie and this was accepted. This part, too, will need to modified for
Fortran 2003 or withdrawn, but again I do not want us to spend time on
it just now. Its systematic review comes up in 2005.

Problems in other groups has made me realize that I need to be stricter
about WG5 participants being authorized by their national bodies. In
future, expect me to chase those of you that do not get such
authorization. Sorry about that!

Best wishes,

John.
