In case of FORTREV or Fortran 8X, the temporary names sounded undoubtedly temporary. As for 2000, it sounds both an actual year and an approximate year. For those who have been familiar with F2k or who will know it shortly, it's clearly an approximate year. John's third point ensures this interpretation. ;-) >3. Fortran 2000 as a name sounds dated.
