This message is for those interested in going to Prague.
-------------------------------------------------------

Well, I have not received any negative responses (but a few positive
ones), so our plan is the following:

  FRI, August 1, 16:12 -> 18:47  train Dresden -> Prague
  MON, August 4, 17:09 -> 20:23  train Prague -> Dresden

If we are done very early on Friday, we might be able to catch the
train at 11:55, but that seems unlikely.

The one thing I did not anticipate is the high price for hotel rooms.
Prague is a booming city and has seen a tremendous increase in tourism
the last couple of years, so I have had a difficult time finding a
decent hotel in a good location for a reasonable price.

There are basically 3 options for mid-class (3 stars out of 5) hotels:

 1. either you need public transportation (10-15 minutes plus maybe a
short walk) to get from the tourist places in the center to the hotel
(starting at approx. 40 Euros/night (single) or 50 Euros for 2, incl.
breakfast) --- e.g. Hotel Aron has 48 rooms with Sat-TV and phone,
has a restaurant and a bistro, rates: 46 Euros for 1, 58 Euros for 2.

 2. or the hotel is centrally located (many sights can be reached
directly on foot), but the price is typically at least 80 Euros
for a single, 100 Euros or more for 2 --- e.g. Hotel Central is located
in the historic center, was renovated 3 years ago, has a restaurant and
69 rooms with Sat-TV, phone, and safe; rates: 74 Euros for 1, 104 Euros
for 2.

 3. or the Botel, a hotel on a boat that is fairly centrally located
(probably about 20 minutes on foot to get to the tourist places);
rates: 80 Euros for 1 and 99 Euros for 2.

My tendency is to play it safe and go for the center, e.g. Hotel Central,
but public transportation is pretty efficient in Prague and we will not
be able to do everything on foot anyway, so spending 20 to 30 minutes in
the morning and the evening for transfer might not be such a bad idea.

In conclusion, I would like to get reactions on 2 items if you do not
agree with me or if my assumptions are mistaken:

 A. The following poeple would like to go to Prague (AFTER the meeting!):

    Bill Long (1)
    Jeanne Martin (1)
    Toon Moene (1)
    Makki Takata (1)
    Wolfgang Walter (1)
    Matthijs van Waveren (2)

    Did I miss anyone or include anyone who does not want to go???

 B. We would prefer a centrally located hotel even if that means that
    we are going to pay at least the rates of the Hotel Central.

    Please respond if you think that approx. 80 Euros (single) is too
    much, or if you would enjoy the Botel.

Best wishes,

Wolfgang
