Subject:  Forthcoming WG5 Ballot and CD Ballot

According to WG5 resolution V13, there will be a WG5 letter ballot on items of
the Defect Report Index (S20) that X3J3 considers completed.  This ballot,
according to V13, is to follow the November 1992 X3J3 meeting.  As of the end 
of that meeting, X3J3 had approved 33 items.  However, X3J3 plans to hold an
X3J3 letter ballot on 45 more items in an attempt to increase the number of
items forwarded to WG5.  The X3J3 letter ballot will conclude in early January,
so you can expect the WG5 ballot in mid to late January with a completion date
in February.

You should also be aware that the CD ballot on the varying length character
string standard is currently in progress with a completion date of January 29,
1993.  It is to be hoped that member bodies with representation in WG5 will
actively participate in this ballot.
