WG5 members,

Appended, please find a message from Wolfgang about the meeting in
2003, which he has very kindly offered to host. He suggests two
alternative dates:
either the week of July 28 to August 1
or the week of August 4 to August 8.
I would like to choose between one of these by the end of this month,
so please may I have your straw votes by then?

Thanks,

John.

John,

I fail to see the problem. We can have the meeting during either
of the 2 weeks that I proposed, and I do not foresee any problems in
organizing the meeting. Realistically, there won't be more than 20
participants (is that true??). Since there are not too many tourists
visiting Dresden during the months of July and August, it is easy to
get a room in just about any hotel.

Furthermore, the university has a new guest house where I can easily
block a set of rooms. I called them recently and they had no
reservations yet for that time period. It is a modern building with
good facilities including a restaurant. All rooms are double rooms.
The price is currently 50 Euros for single occupancy and 65 Euros for
double occupancy - breakfast included. From there it is 10 to 15
minutes on foot or 1 or 2 bus stops to get to our meeting place in the
math building.

For those who prefer to be closer to the city center there are a number
of hotels that are easily accessible (among them the one at which
most WG5 members stayed during their last visit). They are close
to the train station and to the most important shopping area, about
20 to 25 minutes on foot or 3 bus stops from our meeting place and
just a bit more expensive than the guest house (all approx. between
60 and 90 Euros).

All the sources I have tapped into so far indicate that there will
be no big events at the university or in Dresden those weeks,
just a few annual festivals (music, etc.). The really active months
are definitely May, June and the beginning of July and then again
September through November.

I would like to leave the choice of week up to the members of WG5:
either the week of July 28 to August 1
or the week of August 4 to August 8.

Flights to/from Dresden are no problem except that they are mostly
Lufthansa flights which often go via Frankfurt or Munich if you fly
internationally. Besides the local airport, there are airports in
Leipzig (80 minutes by train) and, more importantly, in Berlin
(2-3 hours by train); Frankfurt is about 5-6 hours by train.

I hope that this gives you enough detail at the moment.

Best wishes,

Wolfgang
