To X3J3 and WG5 -

I received this morning from the X3 secretariat document X3/92-2456 entitled

Assignment of Project No. 966-I, Project Proposal for Fortran 9x

The two-paragraph text of the letter (which is addressed to me) is:

"At their October 12-13, 1992 meeting, X3 voted with a tally of 27-0-0 to
approve the SPARC recommendation on the above-referenced subject. The
authorizing document for this project is X3/92-2028. Please be sure an keep
a copy of this document for further processing.

We have assigned X3 Project No. 966-I to this new project. Please use this
number on all documents relating to this project. The X3 Secretariat will
issue a press release announcing approval of the project. If you have any
suggested wording, please let me know by November 15, 1992."

This of course is notification of approval of our proposal for a 1995-96 "I"
revision of Fortran 90 and satifies WG5 resolution V9. Note that document
X3/92-2028 is included in the list of "Selected X3 Documents" (X3J3/92-179 in
the premeeting distribution for next month's X3J3 meeting); I will bring a
copy of X3/92-2028 to the meeting, but it is essentially document X3J3/92-188
("I" Project Proposal for Fortran 9x) in the premeeting.

If anyone has any suggestions for wording of the press release, please let me
know by the end of the week.

We are now officially on the hook for producing a 1995-96 revision, and we
need to begin attending to that as well as the interpretations (mid '95 is
only two and a half years away). Therefore X3J3/editorial should begin to
function full time at next month's meeting with a goal of producing a new
draft document incorporating all cci items by before the WG5 and X3J3
meetings next July. The rest of the X3J3 subgroup reorganization I would
like to defer to Feb, pending the discussion of X3J3/92-181 in Nov, so that
we can put a maximum effort on the cci issues in Nov. The only other
exception to this is that we need to produce a review of HPF (version 3, or
possibly version 4, if it appears by next week) for the HPFF.

In a separate note I will distribute a revised agenda for the Nov meeting
based upon the premeeting distribution contents and additional email material
received through today.

As Andrew Tait will be unable to attend the Nov meeting I will attempt to
fill his shoes in managing the cci activities. To this end I will plan on
bringing an elctronic copy of S20.122 and as many of the new RFIs as I can in
electronic form.

Best regards.
Jerry
