Subject: SGML for next Fortran standard?
X-Charset: ASCII
X-Char-Esc: 29

I have:
Called Frame Technology. They are sending me packets for Frame on Unix
  and DOS.

Called Seybold -- Report on Publishing Systems. They are sending me
permission to distribute "Silicon Graphics, Novell Pick SGML for Documents",
  vol 23.1, Sept 7 92, to X3J3.

Called Electronic Book Technologies (their DynaText SGML based viewer
is referenced in the Seybold article). They are sending me product
  description and a windows-based demo.

All of which I will bring to the next meeting.

Rochelle: While having machines available at meetings has become the norm,
this time we will need windows support for the demo. I will send you
a copy of the diskette as soon as I receive it (from Providence RI to
San Jose Ca to New Haven Conn, sigh).

Andrew: Appreciate the long time you spent on the phone with me; your
interest in what value might be added is appreciated and I appreciate
that if no value is added SGML is not likely to be selected.

Kurt: Thanks for your support for keeping the question open.

Vendors: If you are delivering online documentation that is structured
to support "intelligence" in viewing, I would most appreciate it if you
could bring to the meeting (or send to me) a description of your methodology.

My thanks to everyone for their patience for what might seem to be an arcane
topic. I am convinced that, while paper will not go away, online delivery
of the next standard and efficient/effective access to that text by the
user community is a requirement.

Thanks, Dick W.
