Subject: Electronic version of ISO 1539:1991
Cc: sjc@borland.com
X-Charset: ASCII
X-Char-Esc: 29

I just had another conversation with Mr. J.-O. Chabot
at ISO in Geneva about providing electronic copies
of ISO 1539:1991. It is so nice to deal with a person
in a "bureaucracy" who is willing to try some new ideas.
This is all still unofficial until things are signed
in a couple of weeks, but I wanted to let you know as
soon as possible.

There will be three products:

   a) The ASCII version as distributed to X3J3 members.
       Price: USD 125.

   b) A PostScript version similar to that used to produce
the line-numbered version distributed by Dick W.
Price: USD 125 + 10n, where n is the number of
paper copies that may be printed. This will allow
an organization like Exxon or the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory to have a copy on the desk of every
Fortran programmer at a very reasonable cost.

   c) Complete source and programs for those who want to
take parts of the document (e.g., the syntax rules)
add their own parts, regenerate the cross reference,
etc. and put it in their documentation or want to
easily extract all the program examples for testing.
No more than 10% of the standard may appear in other
       documentation without making additional arrangements.
       Price: USD 1000.

The grungy details for those interested:

All products will be shipped airmail on a 3.5" floppy disk
in either Unix or DOS format. A medium/handling/shipping
charge of USD 5 (North America) or USD 10 (rest of the world)
will be added to each order. A shrink wrap license will
come with each. All transactions will go through Unicomp
and I have agreed to collect and evaluate and pass on any
special requests that cannot be covered by the situations
above. Unicomp takes Visa and Master Card, but we don't
take American Express! Also checks in USD on US banks.
Unicomp cannot do a purchase order/billing on products (a)
or (b); the expense would exceed the amount of money we
would get for it.
