Dear WG5,
I am concerned about the slow progress of the interpretatations.
At its meeting in June last year, WG5 adopted a revised schedule (C4)
that commences

J3 delivers to WG5 draft corrigendum 1 and current working draft 2000-06

WG5 approval of corrigendum 1 2000-08

I no longer think this is possible. There are about 85 outstanding
requests for interpretations in the J3 standing document 006 (alias
N1383). Each needs to pass these stages:
  1. J3 meeting vote.
  2. J3 letter ballot.
  3. WG vote.
  4. If edits are involved, incorporation in a corrigendum.
13 have passed stage 1 and will be sent to J3 for letter ballot soon.
None are further on.

We need to help J3 and can do so by constructing draft responses. I
have made a start with 001, 003, 004, 005 and will be sending these out
later today. Please will you look at them, or at least look at one of
them? I would like comments and it will give you an idea of what is
needed. Please will you consider writing a draft for another one?

I am hoping that a reasonable number will have passed stage 2 by August
and that we can vote on them (stage 3) at the Oulu meeting. This will
allow us to construct a draft corrigendum at Oulu, to be the subject of
a WG5 letter ballot afterwards. This will mean that we lose only about
2 months of our schedule.

Best wishes,

John.
