Subject: Date of August meeting of WG5

Dear WG5 members,
I have just heard that our host in Finland, Petri
Mahonen, will have to be at a UN conference in Japan during the planned
week of our meeting. His problem is that one of the general chairs has
been incapacitated in an accident, so he must take over.

Petri says that we can keep to our intended week, 21-25 August. He can
get local staff to organize everything beforehand, and there will be
local support available during the meeting. However, I think it is very
desirable to have the local host there, so I would like to explore the
possibility of a change.

The plan is to stay at Hotel Radisson SAS. He has blocked 30 rooms.
The negotiated price is:

                 1 room 460 FIM/night (about 80 USD)
                 double room 760 FIM/night (about 130 USD)

This hotel is also available for 7-11 August or 14-18 August.

The meeting itself will be held at the Research Institute (VTT). This
is about 5 km from the city center, but it takes only 10 min by car, or
15-20 min by bus. The institute will sponsor our coffee/tea, and
probably also some lunches. He will also try to arrange some local
sightseeing for Nokia Telecommunication for us to see. The Institute
will also provide complementary email, copying etc. services for WG5.

I would like to hold a straw vote on changing the date. If anyone feels
strongly enough that we should keep to the original date, I will not
change it. Otherwise, I will try to judge which week will lead to the
most successful meeting. Please choose one of each of these alternatives.

1. I feel strongly that the date should not be changed (state reason).
1. I am willing for the date to be changed.

2. I hope to attend the meeting.
2. I cannot attend the meeting at any time in August.

For those replying '2. I hope to attend the meeting.', choose one or
more of the following.

3. I have no preference as to date.
3. I cannot manage 7-11 August.
3. I cannot manage 14-18 August.
3. I cannot manage 21-25 August.
3. I prefer 7-11 August.
3. I prefer 14-18 August.
3. I prefer 21-25 August.

Happy New Year to you all.

John Reid.
