The plans for the social program are nearly final. We have had some difficulty obtaining adequate funding, but it looks like we will have that in hand. It is possible that there will be a nominal charge, but if necessary, it will be $10 or less. The actual cost is more in the order of $60+ per person. PLEASE NOTE: For those of you wishing to plan other things for certain evenings, note that the tour and barbecue have been moved from Wed., July 29, and will take place on THURSDAY, JULY 30. Unfortunately, we have been preempted (read, given the boot) for Wednesday due to a very recent requirement for the College to host a dinner for the Associate Minister of Defense, the French Ministre de Defence, and associated dignitaries. On Monday morning of the meeting, we will be asking for firm commitments for those wishing to take part in this program. It includes spouses and dependents. It occurrence is predicated on the majority of delegates participating. When you check in to the hotel, please make sure you receive an envelope with further information, including information about a garden tour at the College for spouses, and the Monday evening reception at the College. The program for Thursday is roughly the following: 1 pm Leave the College by bus. Early Afternoon:Bus transportation to Butchart Gardens, Victoria's most visited and most famous attraction, with a self-guided tour of the gardens --approx. 1:45-3:45; Mid Afternoon: Bus transportation via the scenic route to downtown on a double decker bus --approx. 3:45-4:45; Late Afternoon: Tour of the Provincial Museum --approx. 4:45-6:45; (followed by bus trip back to College): Evening: A salmon barbeque, which is clearly an attraction here on the coast. It will be held on the patio of the Castle at Royal Roads and held in facilities of the Senior Staff Mess at the College --from about 7:30 pm on.
