David Muxworthy -------------------------------------------------------------------- ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC22/WG5-N1290 RESOLUTIONS OF THE WG5 MEETING ON 21 TO 25 JULY 1997 IN VIENNA, AUSTRIA The meeting was attended by the convenor and 24 members, representing 7 member bodies. Resolutions V2, V3, V5 and V7 were approved by unanimous consent, V9 and V10 by unanimous acclaim; votes on the other resolutions are shown following each resolution. V1 Revised Strategic Plan That WG5 adopts document WG5-N1287 as its revised strategic plan. V1 was approved with one individual abstention and four individual negative votes, and with one country negative vote. V2 WG5 Document Repository and Web Site That WG5 records its intent to reorganize its electronic document repository, along the lines described in WG5-N1302, and to provide web access to these documents and other relevant sites. A committee comprising Miles Ellis, Kurt Hirchert, David Schmitt and Jerry Wagener is commissioned to develop the new repository and web site and to make a beta version available to the WG5 membership by the end of 1997. V3 PDTRs on Floating Point Exception Handling and Enhanced Data Type Facilities That WG5 directs its convenor to forward PDTR 15580 on Floating Point Exception Handling in Fortran (WG5-N1281) and PDTR 15581 on Enhanced Data Type Facilities in Fortran (WG5-N1282) to the SC22 Secretariat for DTR balloting. V4 Interoperability of Fortran and C That WG5, anticipating considerable technical revision of the proposal on Interoperability of Fortran and C as a result of comments in the SC22 ballot on PDTR 15815, and in order to keep to the schedule for implementing interoperability as a major requirement for Fortran 2000, requests the primary development body to accept the responsibility for developing this requirement. V4 was approved with two individual abstentions and five individual negative votes, and with one country negative vote. V5 Project Editor for Fortran 2000 Revision That WG5 directs its convenor to request SC22 to appoint Richard Maine as project editor for the revision of ISO 1539-1:1997. V6 Part 2 of the Fortran Standard (Varying Length Strings) That WG5 instructs its convenor to request SC22 approval to revise both the normative and the informative parts of Part 2 of the Fortran Standard, along the lines outlined in WG5-N1297. Further, WG5 records its intent to form a group to assist the project editor and requests members of WG5 to nominate participants for this group. V6 was approved with three individual abstentions, and with one country abstention. V7 Part 3 of the Fortran Standard (Conditional Compilation) That WG5 establishes the following procedure for progressing Part 3 of the Fortran Standard: - document WG5-N1301 is forwarded to the primary development body for review at its August 1997 meeting, - the project editor revises the document if necessary as a result of primary development body comments, - if no significant changes were required, the document is forwarded to the SC22 Secretariat for final CD processing, - if significant changes were required, the subsequent document is reviewed by WG5 by a letter ballot and, subject to satisfactory response, is forwarded for CD processing. V8 Interval Arithmetic Requirement That WG5 requests the primary development body to develop the interval arithmetic requirement in such a way that it need not impose significant implementation costs, and may be optional, for standard-conforming implementations, subject only to the principles regarding mandatory and optional features in the WG5 Strategic Plan (WG5-N1287). WG5 authorizes the primary development body to develop the interval arithmetic requirement as an optional Part of the Fortran Standard if, in the judgement of the primary development body that is the only acceptable technical solution permitted by the WG5 Strategic Plan, provided that the primary development body will plan to deliver the draft document for that Part to WG5 in the same time frame as it delivers the Fortran 2000 Part 1 document. Should the primary development body choose the optional Part route for the interval arithmetic requirement, WG5 instructs its convenor to obtain the appropriate approvals from SC22. V8 was approved with six individual abstentions and four individual negative votes, and with one country abstention and two country negative votes.
