Brian was a member of WG5 for many years, as well as being a pillar of the whole programming language standardisation activity in the UK and worldwide. In recent years his interests had turned more towards the cross-language activities of WG11, and the last meeting of WG5 that he attended was in Lund in 1991. He would have been Head of the UK delegation to the SC22 Plenary in August. The world of programming language standards will not be the same without him.
