Subject: My server is working again!

My computer has now had a new hard disk installed and I have recreated
(almost) all of the files that were lost from a backup tape. I am now in a
position to receive papers for placing on the WG5 server once more, and to
issue numbers for WG5 papers. My apologies for the interruption to normal
service!

I have taken the oppoortunity to make a slight change to the file server
arrangement, as described below.

You should connect to com1.etrc.ox.ac.uk in one of two ways:

(a) With the user name "anonymous" and your email address as password
(i.e. conventional anonymous ftp). In this case you will be connected to a
disk partition with two folders "Public_In" and "Public_Out". Public_In
contains a sub-directory called "New_WG5_Papers". Please place any papers
for electronic dostribution in this folder. This is the same as before
except that you have to select the New_WG5_Papers directory yourself.

(b) With the user name "WG5" and password "Fortran". In this case you
will be connected directly to the "New_WG5_Papers". This is a preliminary
step towards having a password-controlled server which may soon be
necessary; we shall discuss this in Vienna.

In both cases you may add papers to the "New_WG5_Papers" directory (or to
the higher "Public_In" directory if you must ;-), or you may download
copies of them, but you cannot rename or delete them.

Please also send me an email to say that you have placed a paper, or
papers, on the server in case I miss it.

Once again, sorry for any problems caused by my hardware problems. I look
forward to seeing many of you in Vienna.
