Subject: Fortran Conditional Compilation

This is to tell you that the WG5 server now has the latest draft CD
1539-3 (coco) as N1283, ready for discussion in Vienna.

N1283 is also available on my server:
jkr.cc.rl.ac.uk (130.246.8.20) in the directory pub/wg5
There is also a (less readable) text version in the same directory.

I have been helping David Epstein by doing the typesetting. Dick
Hendrickson has been actively collaborating by email so that the three
of us have acted as an editorial team under the leadership of David.
We responded to the pre-LV ballot comments. A draft document was sent
to the Development Body and we have responded to its comments, too.

The main technical changes since N1243 (the ballot version) are:

1. The description is now independent of part 1. This has only
lengthened the document slightly and is much more satisfactory
since in most cases coco requires only a simpified version of the
equivalent Fortran feature.

2. The model is now of an independent process that yields a source
program for a Fortran processor. Of course, it is expected that
implementations will usually integrate the two processes and only
optionally provide the coco output code (Fortran source code).

3. SET is now standardized as a separate SET file.

Beyond this, there are many editorial changes.

Best wishes,

John.
