                       Special Seminar

                   Tuesday 10th June, 1997

                     10.00 - 11.00 a.m.

Room 051, Oxford University Computing Laboratory
               Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford

Compile-time Optimization of Point and Interval Expressions

              Bill Walster (Sun Engineering, US)

Abstract. The speed *and* sharpness of interval programs can be
	   significantly increased by applying mathematical
simplifications and other transformations at compile-time.
Both the theoretical justification and the practical
results needed to successfully apply the desired
	   transformations are presented.

This seminar could be of general interest both to computer scientists
and to numerical analysts. Bill will be happy to stay on for a while
after the seminar and discuss the topic in more detail.
