Subject: Betty Holberton

For those of you who want to see the material
on the WITI site about Betty Holberton, I did
not find it where we were told, but at

http://www.witi.com/Center/Offices/Witinews/Hall

A couple of items of trivia for those who remember
(or might be interested anyway).

The above page contains some info about the ENIAC.
A Professor Brainerd was chair of the EE Department
at Penn during those days.

The article says Betty was chair of the Cobol
standards committee, but says nothing about her
work on the Fortran standards committee.

A story I was told was that Betty invented the
"read ring" for tapes. Others obviously felt
that the "write ring" was the way to go!
