Subject: Re: (SC22WG5.1259)

Some people may have been rather confused by the message I sent yesterday
(SC22WG5.1259) about N1247.

This was really addressed to Larry Rolison but, because I thought that he
had copied his original message to the whole list, I sent my reply there as
well.

It was only subsequently that I realised that he had not sent his message
to the whole list, but that the filter system on Eudora had noted the
reference to SC22WG5 in the subject line of Larry's original message and
put it in the "Incoming WG5" folder. I was so busy yesterday that I just
read it and replied to him with a copy to the list, and only later realised
that my filter specification had erred!

Anyway, that's why you all got a lenthy reply to a message you hadn't received.

For those of you who did get to the end, you will realise that I was
suggesting to Larry that if he wished to get input on paper N1247 before
the meeting he should conduct an informal ballot himself, but that I could
not carry out such a ballot because his paper is a proposed alternative to
N1243, which is the current draft CD for our project on conditional
compilation in Fortran, and my job is to review that paper not counter
proposals.

So if you receive a request from Larry to respond to an informal ballot on
N1247, it is an unofficial informal ballot, but it is being conducted with
my knowledge and is not an attempt to do anything behind the Convenor's
back!

The relevant paper is now on the WG5 server in PostScript and Acrobat formats.
