Subject: Informal Review of Interoperability PDTR

The draft PDTR (Provisional Draft Technical Report! - equivalent to CD for
a standard) for Interoperability between Fortran and C has been through
several versions and the time is fast approaching when we should send it to
SC22 for its first PDTR ballot.

The latest version of this document is N1237, which has been on the server
for a few days now. As is the case for the draft CD for Conditional
Compilation, it is not proposed to allow any full committee time to discuss
this but, instead, to have an evening meeting (Monday) of the Development
Body (plus anyone else interested) to resolve any outstanding issues and to
produce one or more draft resolutions regarding the next step. As I have
pointed out in an earlier message, interoperability with C could be of
crucial importance in dealing with issues of internationalization - a topic
which SC22 requires us to address in all future standards.

Michael Hennecke, the Project Editor, has asked to have an informal ballot
on the current document, along the same lines as the one I initiated the
other day for the draft Conditional Compilation CD, in order to provide
additional input to the Monday evening meeting.

Please read the draft and then reply to me by email as follows NO LATER
THAN WEDNESDAY 5TH FEBRUARY. (Note that whether you copy your informal
ballot to the whole WG5 list is up to you. It might be helpful, but you
may wish to keep your coments conficential - at least until after the
ballot closes.)

Informal Ballot on N1237 (Draft Technical Report on Interoperability
between Fortran and C)

                                                 __________
I believe that the current draft is ready for | YES | NO |
submission to SC22 for its first PDTR ballot |_____|____|

If NO, please provide details of what changes you wish to see made in order
that the document will be suitable for submission to SC22 for balloting.
