There have been a number of inquiries regarding Digital's plans for a Fortran
90 product. Until recently, we were not prepared to make any comment on the
subject, but I've been given the ok to make the following statement on behalf
of Digital Product Management.

At last week's US DECUS Symposium in Atlanta, Georgia, I gave a presentation on
the future directions for Digital's Fortran products. Part of this presentation
was a statement that Digital is indeed developing a Fortran 90 compiler
product. No dates for availability were discussed.

Some of the goals of Digital's Fortran 90 project are:
 - Full compliance with the Fortran 90 standard
 - A high degree of compatibility with VAX FORTRAN and DEC Fortran
 - Integration with Digital's software development tools
 - High reliability

Within a few weeks, Digital sales representatives should have available to
them a "Proprietary Information Disclosure" presentation on Digital's
Fortran 90 project, which you can then ask for if you need further information.
Please don't send me requests for information as there's nothing more that
I can tell you at this time.

Keep in mind that Fortran 90 is a major new language, and that as it was for
Ada, complete production-quality implementations will not appear overnight.
