Subject: Revised Agenda for Las Vegas joint meeting with X3J3

During the recent X3J3, which I attended, Jerry Wagener and I produced a
revised agenda for the February meeting, together with a timetable for when
the various items will be dealt with.

The revised agenda is on the WG5 server as N1234, but I am also
distributing it by email to ensure that everyone sees it in good time.

As you know, it is intended that this meeting should concentrate almost
exclusively on finalising the requirements for Fortran 2000, and many of
the more routine agenda items are either being dealt with by written report
only or are being deferred to the summer meeting in Vienna.

Two technical items that will need some time in Las Vegas are the TR on
Interoperability with C and the Part 3 on Conditional Comilation. It is
proposed to have evening meetings on Monday and Wednesday (Tuesday evening
is reserved for a social event) to review the draft documents for these two
projects and to limit full committee discussion of them to the discussion
of any proposed resolutions.

The bulk of the meeting will be spent in subgroups, first to refine
requirements, and secondly to develop technical positions on these
requirements. I shall be asking all those planning to attend the meeting
to indicate in advance which subgroup they wish to attend in order that the
membership of the subgroups can be finalised, as far as possible, before
the meeting itself.

=46inally, I should remind everyone that the cut-off date for making
reservations at the Sunrise Suites (at the remarkably good price of $40 per
night) is January 6th (see N1232). I stayed at the hotel during the recent
X3J3 meeting and it is very pleasant, with suites containing a sitting
room/kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom (with two TVs - one in the sitting
room and one in the bedroom). The hotel has a small delicatessen attached,
where one can purchase the usual 'deli' fare, but there is no restaurant.
However, there are a large number of restaurants within 5-10 minutes by
car, and a couple that are within walking distance.

The distractions of "The Strip" are about five miles to the west, although
the hotel runs a (free) shuttle to both the airport and the Strip at
regular intervals throughout the day. Otherwise it's a 15 minute car drive
or a $15 taxi ride.

I hope that many non-US members will be able to attend as this is an
important meeting for the future of Fortran, as well as being the first
joint WG5/X3J3 meeting.
