Subject: SC22 Ballot on Technical Corrigendum 3

The ballot on Technical Corrigendum 3 ended with 15 votes in favour, 1
abstention and 5 not voting.

The Corrigendum is therefore approved.

The 15 in favour were Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Finland,
Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, Ukraine and
USA.

Denmark abstained "Due to lack of Danish expertise".

Belgium, China, Czech Republic, France and Romania did not vote.

However, Japan included the following comment with their affirmative vote,
which we have to address before the Corrigendum is published:

In the fifth line of the subclause "14.1.2.3" (on page 242), "for
each argument or operand" should be changed to "for each operand".

I can see their point, since the clause really refers to "an intrinsic
operator or assignment" and not to the associated procedures.

John Reid and I have discussed this, and agree that it seems a sensible
improvement which could prevent a possible confusion. Unless there is any
strong objection, therefore, I propose to submit the Technical Corrigendum
to ITTF for publication exactly as balloted apart from this one change.

However, since this is a change to the agreed Corrigendum, before doing so
I wish to ask the membership of WG5 if there are any objections to this
change.

Since the Corrigendum has passed its ballot the only two options are to
forward it with the change proposed by Japan, as John and I recommend, or
to forward it without the change, as approved. I do not think that any
alternative change is an option at this stage.

Would anyone objecting to the Japanese change being made before publication
please email me that objection to reach me NO LATER THAN 2359 GMT ON MONDAY
4TH NOVEMBER. If there are any significant objections then the Corrigendum
will be published as balloted, otherwise it will be published with the
Japanese change.

Note: If we agree to make the change then an identical change will be
required to the DIS for Fortran 95. This can easily be done after the
completion of the DIS ballot, however.

Miles
