Well, it took long enough, and Fortran 95 is almost official, but the Fortran
90 special issue (SI) of Computer Standards and Interfaces (CSI) is now out.
Or so goes the rumor - I haven't seen a copy yet, but the notes below suggest
that it's for real. Those of you that were at the Feb'96 X3J3 meeting may
remember that we had a prepublication copy on the table. Jeanne Adams and I
served as special issue co-editors. (Jeanne had the first word, as her paper
was the first one and I had the last word since my paper brought up the rear -
in between were the really good papers. :)

The following two notes were received recently (by the paper authors) from the
CSI general editor (John Berg, johnberg@cris.com) and the publishing editor
(Yvonne Campfens, Y.CAMPFENS@elsevier.nl). They are anxious to publicize the
SI and would like our recommendations on just where to so proclaim. Of course
any publicity we can get for Fortran 90, no matter how large or small, is
desirable. Therefore if you have any ideas on where to publicize the SI please
let Jeanne (jeanne@ncar.ucar.edu) or John or Yvonne or me know. We'll
probably think of the most obvious newsgroups, conferences, etc, but there are
no doubt lots more that would be appropriate; so we could use your
suggestions. both John's and Yvonne's notes indicate the kinds of places that
are candidates.

Please also note John's invitation to submit Fortran papers for future issues
of CSI.

Jerry

------------------------------------

Thanks to Jerry, Jeanne, and all of you for an excellent SI. I just
received the final form last night and your SI is full of news, controversy,
rationally argued points, and important facts. It should generate a lot of
discussion.

Please remember that each of you may send Elsevier (see Yvonne's email
address in the CC) ten addresses of colleagues to receive a complementary
copy of the SI. You also have the usual author's perks which I think Yvonne
has taken care of already.

Please look at Elsevier Science Publishers web page at
http://www.elsevier.nl to see our recent CSI table of contents. Best way to
dig through the huge number of ESP journals is to use the alphabetic Table
of Contents search. If you see a CSI journal you'd like and I have it in my
small supply, email me and I will gladly send it to you.

I will be working with Jerry and Jeanne to find conferences, symposia,
seminars, etc. at which we can promote your issue and our journal. If you
have any ideas, please let us know. If there are any up-coming standards
meetings at which a display of the SI will be helpful, this may be
especially useful.

Finally, given the interest sure to be generated by your SI, please consider
single papers that you would like to submit to future issues of CSI, or
advise your friends and colleagues who would like to support or appose the
points argued in the SI of our interest in papers.

To brag for a moment, after all these years and volumes, CSI is still the
only INDEPENDENT (not some org's house organ), international (as reflected
in our subscriptions), standards publication in the world. SIs like yours
have made this possible.

-------------------------------------

This message concerns the Special Issue "FORTRAN 90" of the journal
Computer Standards & Interfaces, for which you have contributed a paper.

We would like to publicize the issue as we do with all distinctive
Special Issues, i.e. using news groups and electronic list servers as
well as having the issue on display at relevant workshops.
We would like to call on your help for this purpose.

If you are aware or using any relevant news groups and electronic list
servers, or if you know of any forthcoming relevant workshops, we would be
obliged to hear this from you.

We would like to thank you for your participation in the above Special Issue
and hope you will consider Computer Standards & Interfaces again in the
future for submission of a paper.

We look forward to receiving your suggestions for publishing the Special
Issue.

With kindest regards,

Yvonne Campfens
Publishing Editor
