Subject: ANNOUNCING: Do-It-Yourself ELF Textbook

I have prepared a textbook, based on my textbook "Fortran 90" (PWS, 1995),
describing the ELF subset (Essential Lahey Fortran). I have permission
from PWS Publishing Co. to distribute copies if each copy includes
acknowledgement of the PWS text.

I am now making this ELF textbook available in the form of some 500 paper
pages, unbound, in exactly the same style and format as the Fortran 90
textbook. (It looks like my Fortran 90 textbook with all of the non-ELF
parts deleted.) I can send you a single paper copy of the textbook that
you can then copy, bind, and distribute, subject to a royalty payment of
$1.00 per copy sold. I am requiring an initial advance royalty payment of
$100, which also covers my costs for printing and shipping the material to
you.

Along with the paper copy, I will also send you a 3.5 inch DOS diskette
that contains all program examples listed in the ELF textbook. Each
example program occupies one file. These program files may be freely
copied, stored on a network, etc., so long as the copyright notice on each
file is not deleted.

For "early bird" users from which I receive the signed agreement (below)
and payment by August 19, I will print the text and send it with a
diskette during the following week by UPS Ground Track (or by a faster
method, if you want to pay the difference). I will be away from home most
of the time between now and August 19.

Agreement between Loren P. Meissner and _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _,
hereinafter called User:

Upon receipt of this agreement signed by/for User, along with an advance
royalty payment of $100.00 (US funds), Loren P. Meissner will deliver to
User one unbound paper copy of his textbook entitled "Essential Fortran 90
& 95", along with a 3.5 inch DOS diskette containing program examples.

Loren P. Meissner retains the copyright for this textbook. User is
permitted to print, bind, and distribute copies of this textbook. In
recognition of the fact that much of the material is derived from the
textbook "Fortran 90" by Loren P. Meissner (copyrighted 1995 by PWS
Publishing Co., Boston), User agrees to prominently display the following
statement on each copy printed:

"Portions of this text appeared in Fortran 90, by Loren P. Meissner,
published by PWS Publishing Company, a division of International Thompson
 Publishing Company, Boston, MA."

User may sell copies of this textbook. For each copy sold, User will pay
a royalty of $1.00 to Loren P. Meissner. Royalty payment for up to 100
copies is included in the initial advance payment. After 100 copies have
been sold, and continuing until User notifies Loren P. Meissner that no
further copies will be sold, accrued royalties will be paid once per year.

If this text (or a work derived from this one, describing the Essential
Fortran dialect and having Loren P. Meissner as an author) becomes
available commercially at some later time from PWS or any other publisher,
Loren P. Meissner will so notify User, and this agreement will terminate
one year from the date of such notification.
