Dear friends and colleagues,

a few questions have accumulated over the past days which I will try to
answer. Please do not hesitate to ask us about anything else.

1. Computer access: There will be guest accounts available on various
workstations (SUN and IBM), so doing e-mail, accessing WWW, editing,
printing, even using a Fortran 90 compiler or computing should not
be a problem. If this should be necessary, we can also provide
access to some PCs - all connected to the Internet as well.

2. Voltage: The voltage in central Europe is 230V (there is no longer
any distinction between the 220V and the 240V nets). Appliances
which need a voltage in the range of about 100-120V require the
   following:

   - a 2-to-1 converter/transformer reducing the voltage to about one half,
   - an adapter plug with 2 round prongs 3-4 mm in diameter and nearly 2 cm
apart center to center (flat variety), possibly with 2 additional
security contacts along the outside of the front part of the plug
     (round variety).

I am fairly certain that we can provide at least one big transformer
   to convert 220V to 110V, but am still investigating . . .

3. Excursion: There will be an excursion on Wednesday afternoon to the
nearby Koenigstein fortress and the Bastei rocks where we will also
have dinner. I may have to ask all participants for a moderate
contribution to the excursion. Final decisions will be made on
the first day of the meeting.

!!! Please have something other than high heels or sandals for the
!!! sightseeing tour - sneakers and ordinary closed shoes are fine.
!!! If you happen to have a flashlight handy, it may be worth
!!! bringing, but this is by no means a requirement.

4. Travel: We have prepared a few maps which we can fax to anyone
needing instructions on how to get to the hotel by car.
I am assuming anyone who will be coming by car will be driving to
Dresden from west to east on Autobahn A4.

   The simple instructions are:
   - get to the center (Zentrum) of the city,
   - then get to the main station (Hauptbahnhof),
   - then try to make it to the three tall ibis hotels just north-east
of the station (direction city center) - within walking distance
     (200 meters) from the station.

   The more complete instructions are:
   - leave the Autobahn at the exit Dresden-Altstadt,
   - watch for cops or radar when you exit (you will immediately enter
a 30 km zone - pretty ridiculous really),
   - turn right at the first big intersection,
   - keep going more or less straight, always direction Zentrum (center),
   - when you reach the edge of the city center, you will pass under a
     larger group of railroad tracks,
   - immediately after the underpass, turn right and follow directions to
     the Hauptbahnhof (main station),
   - just before reaching the Hauptbahnhof (street turns right here),
     turn left into Reitbahnstrasse,
   - drive towards the city center (north-east) on Reitbahnstrasse
     for about 100 meters,
   - look for the tall ibis hotels (three in a row) on your right,
   - enter their parking lot - Koenigstein is in the middle,
Lilienstein is the last of the three.

Have a safe trip!

Looking forward to seeing you all in Dresden next week,

Wolfgang
