For the record, it is _not_ possible to obtain machine-readable versions
of POSIX standards. I just checked to make sure with the IEEE.
They have a project to develop some of their standards in
hypertext form, but nothing is available yet.
They are trying a pilot project to make drafts available in
electronic form to members of the committee working on the draft.
Following is the copyright notice to accompany such a draft.

But we have been doing this for several years (without the copyright notice),
so we are way ahead of them in this matter. What I am trying to establish
is a procedure to distribute the final standard to anybody who wants it
(probably for a fee).

I got only a very small number of positive comments on my proposal and
no negative ones, so I have sent the letter to ISO and ANSI. I hope to
see some of you in beautiful downtown Milpitas next week at the X3J3 meeting.
We can discuss this some more then, if anybody wants.
