Honolulu was in the running for SC meetings because it has a large =
convention center, which is not needed for WG5 meetings. Its main virtue =
for WG5 is being closer to Japan. (Though Tokyo is even closer, and we =
have held WG5 meetings there.) WG5 has historically had many meetings =
in Las Vegas.=20

European access to Honolulu would be via a polar flight, and not that =
much farther than many other places in the southern part of the US. The =
flights to Berkeley would be shorter since Berkeley is MUCH farther =
North. But Berkeley and Las Vegas both suffer for virtual attendees, =
both being in the US Pacific time zone.=20

But we walk outside from a hotel (or other housing) to the meeting =
location. And to dinner. (I would, thus, not be excited about Las Vegas =
in June because of the extreme heat.)

Cheers,
Bill
