I texted Dan during the WG5 meeting in Boulder in July 2022 to ask whether he would stop by the meeting, but he replied that the weather was too hot. I met Dan when he attended one of the first Fortran tutorials I ever taught with Karla Morris and Salvatore Filipppne hosted by NERSC in 2012. Dan later hosted a tutorial that the three of us we taught at NCAR, which ultimately led to connections and collaborations that continue to this day. I quote Dan often in sharing with me his philosophy on designing Fortran features: enable programmers to communicate properties of their code rather than specific compiler optimizations. That greatly affected my thinking on how to program. Dan will very much be missed. I=E2=80=99m writing in case you were unaware of the passing of my bro= ther, Dan Nagle, who, assuming I=E2=80=99ve not been misinformed, was a lon= g time member of the Fortran Committee and someone you may have known or known of, from his work on that Committee.

Dan died in his home in Longmont CO officially on date Aug 7 2023.
As his brother and executor, I wanted to inform the members of the Committee that I have
planned a Memorial tribute for Dan to be held June the 1st. It physically will be located in Herndon VA not far from where Dan lived for many years in Reston VA. There will be a
Zoom option available for those who wish to participate but would find it difficult to travel.

If you can be of any assistance in sharing this information with other members of the
Committee who worked with or knew Dan, I would be most grateful.

What I am planning for the event is simply a gathering of people who knew Dan
and might be willing to share whatever recollections they feel would be appropriate
from their interactions with him.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, please do let me know so I can know that I have more work to do in reaching the folks I want to reach.
