This is very sad indeed. He became active in 2001 when he was still a
research student. It was extremely helpful to hear the views of a young
user of large Fortran codes. In the run-up to Fortran 2008 he played a
huge role in the tuning of coarrays before their adoption, and I am very
grateful for that.  He was hugely missed when his work prevented him
attending meetings, but he continued to take an interest and interact
with us from time to time.

I have not seen much of him lately, but I think of him as a friend and
will miss him.

I hope these messages reach his friends and family so that our
condolences reach them.

John.
