Hi Steve,

Interesting history and link for Aptos. The obvious general question is wh=
y is Microsoft relevant to anything. More specifically, does the font dis=
tinguish among the number 1, the letter lower case L, and the letter upperc=
ase I?

Cheers,
Bill

As most of you know, one of the things that held up ISO processing of F2023=
(still in "processing" as I write this, balloting not yet started ) was IS=
O's insistence that the standard use 11-point Callibri font. Callibri has b=
een around for 15 years, having been introduced with Office 2007. We got an=
exemption for this time, promising to switch to Callibri for the next revi=
sion.

Recently, Microsoft announced that it was retiring Callibri, replacing it w=
ith a typeface (a font is a specific size of typeface) called Aptos. (It ha=
d been called Bierstadt earlier.) It would not astonish me if, by the time =
we're ready to submit F202Y, that ISO will have switched to requiring use o=
f Aptos.

Meet Microsoft Office=92s new default font: Aptos - The Verge<https://www.t=
