I am not currently active, and so am irrelevant, but it is worth noting 
that at least Skype and some other such mechanisms are completely unusable 
for many people with poor hearing. Inter alia, they are not lip-synched 
properly, and very often distort the voices badly. That's partially 
testable in advance by listening to news broadcasts when they show someone 
reporting in such a way.

I don't know how many likely attendees will be similarly restricted.
