Hi Steve,

NAG is currently taking a "wait and see" attitude for attendance at this =
meeting. So right now, I have no idea whether I can attend.

*IF* the situation with the coronavirus is resolved (contained, =
ameliorated, epidemics everywhere so travel irrelevant, whatever) over =
the next couple of months, I would expect to be able to attend (subject =
to late-booking flights and hotel to be available). I would expect =
*something* to have happened before then, but if the something is that =
the world goes into lockdown, then obviously I would be unable to =
attend.

Re a virtual meeting, all my opinion...

1. The proposed virtual meeting really does not work for people in Japan =
- the meeting is entirely in the middle of the night (well, approx =
evening meal time to 3am, if I did my time zone conversions right).

2. Staring at a Skype screen for hours on end is pretty much a =
non-starter. Those who are blessed with access to "video walls" can have =
quite effective virtual conference, those trying to use tiny laptop =
screens are going to be rather less effective.

...an obvious alternative to a part-virtual part-physical meeting would =
be to postpone the meeting. It would seem highly unlikely that the =
world's current state of uncertainty will last, but if the uncertainty =
resolves itself towards lockdown that would be likely to extend to June, =
that would be my preference.

However, hopefully we would not need to make a decision on that =
immediately anyway. Awaiting developments would seem to be a good idea.

Cheers,

I am sure that most of you are aware of increasing restrictions being =
placed on international (and domestic) travel by employers, and many =
planned in-person conferences and meetings have been canceled or made =
"virtual". Our next WG5 meeting is still a few months off, and the world =
situation may have changed by then, but people are making travel plans =
now and may need to get approval for travel, so I am wondering what WG5 =
members want to do here.

For those of you who had planned to attend the Minneapolis meeting, do =
you still currently plan to do so? I think ISO has something we could =
use for a virtual meeting, but our usual manner of working would be =
severely disrupted. Your thoughts and suggestions would be welcomed.

Steve
