In case it becomes necessary and anybody is interested, I have a quote
for meetings in Pasadena at the Marriott Residence Inn:

$173, including breakfast and a complimentary meeting room. This is the
Federal per diem rate. It's for all delegates to the meeting, not just
U.S. Federal Government employees and contractors.

If you don't want to rent a car, or take a taxi or shuttle, from LAX to
Pasadena, you can take the Flyaway Bus directly from LAX to Union
Station for $9.75. Departures are at ten and forty minutes after the
hour. See http://www.lawa.org/FlyAway/content.aspx?id=10152.

At Union Station, buy a tap card for $1.00 from a machine and put some
money onto it. See https://www.metro.net/riding/fares/. Unlike the
London Oyster Card, there is no provision to surrender it and get
whatever money is left refunded.

The Flyaway bus is a bit more expensive, but much faster (and nicer)
than taking the free "G" shuttle to the Metro Green Line (which stupidly
does NOT go to LAX), then changing to the Metro Silver Line, then
changing to the Metro Red or Purple Line.

From Union Station, take the Metro Gold Line to Pasadena Memorial Park
station. The exit from the station is southward onto Holly Street. Go
west (right) on Holly Street two blocks to Fair Oaks Avenue. Go north
(right) one block on Fair Oaks Avenue to Walnut Street. The Marriott
Residence Inn is on the northwest corner of Fair Oaks Avenue and Walnut
Street.

As you go north on Fair Oaks Avenue you will pass a Courtyard hotel.
The sales rep hasn't yet given me a quote for the Courtyard.

These Marriott properties are one block from Pasadena Old Town.

There are about two dozen restaurants within ten minutes' walking
distance.

If you want to go into downtown Los Angeles, you can take the Metro Gold
Line to the Chinatown, Union Station, or Little Tokyo stops. See
https://media.metro.net/documents/9a582fb5-68f7-44e4-903b-b170294abd7e.pdf. From Union Station you can connect to the Metro Red or Purple lines to go to the Wilshire District or Hollywood. See https://media.metro.net/documents/8ed0d97d-0265-4f02-bbcd-4187f8c34dab.pdf
