Or is there some other commodity platform that is serving the vast majority
of Fortran users?

Now, I can't claim to have tried to map the proposed facility to these, but
I'd have assumed that members of committee like Bill Long have and I'd
trust their analysis.

If the bottom line was that Mac and Windows users might need an OS update,
I doubt that would take overly long if there was a business need. But it
might not happen very quickly (but then most parallel Fortran codes are
running on Linux or AIX these days, aren't they?)
