Adopted at the 55th meeting of the Technical Management Board, San Diego
(USA), 17-18 September 2012

Use of the Committee Draft (CD) Stage

The Technical Management Board,

Recognizing the need to make the ISO standards development process more
efficient and cost

effective,

Noting the conclusions from the Living Lab and feedback from the June 2011
Chairs' conference and

results of the Living Lab pilots conducted so far,

Decides to promote the optional implementation of the Committee Draft (CD)
stage, and that the

decision to use the CD stage should remain with the committee,

Suggests that when deciding whether or not to use the CD stage committees
should balance the

reasons for doing so against the possible increased costs and timescale,

Further noting the results of the survey carried out by the ISO Central
Secretariat (ISO/CS) on the

information committees might need if the CD were eliminated,

Asks ISO/CS to prepare a guidance document on best practices for deciding
whether or not to use the

CD which will be submitted to the TMB for review prior to its circulation,

Requests ISO/CS to provide the TMB with data on the implementation of the
optional CD at its

June 2013 meeting.

Rex
