Problems re the publication of corrigenda to the Fortran Standard
   =20
           John Reid, Convener, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5
                        8 January 2007

The first corrigendum of ISO/IEC 1539-1:2004(E), the current Fortran
Standard, was published as ISO/IEC 1539-1:2004(E)/Cor.1:2006(E) after it
had been completely reformatted by ITTF, losing the distinction in the
Standard between Roman and italic fonts. Further, there were arbitrary
changes between Roman and italic fonts in the accompanying text which gav=
e
the document an untidy, unprofessional look. After correspondence betwee=
n
the WG5 convener, SC22 Secretariat and ITTF, it was agreed (3 May 2006) t=
o
reissue the Corrigendum in the format originally submitted, but this had =
not
happened at the time of writing.

It was difficulties of this kind that led SC22 to pass Resolution 05-06 a=
t
its meeting in 2006 and Resolution 06-24 at its meeting in 2006. Copies=20
are appended.=20

The second corrigendum was sent to ITTF on 8 November. It had not been
published at the time of writing.

Resolution 05-06: Document Submission to ITTF

JTC 1/SC 22 notes that its project editors have been having substantial=20
problems with the publication process. For example, in a number of recen=
t=20
publications, internal bookmarks were removed, rendering the documents=20
difficult to navigate.

JTC 1/SC 22 instructs its Secretariat to request the ITTF to allow the=20
following mode of processing to be applied at the request of the project =

editor before publication of a JTC 1/SC 22 standard, TR, or corrigendum.

1. The project editor sends the approved format file (currently PDF)
together with any additional source files necessary for ITTF to note
   and verify changes.
  =20
2. The ITTF lists the changes it requires.

3. The project editor constructs a new approved format and source files a=
nd
   sends them.
  =20
4. Steps 2. and 3. are repeated until no changes are needed.

The purpose of this procedure is to improve the quality of the final
document.

Unanimous

Resolution 06-24: ITTF and JTC 1/SC 22 Issues=20

JTC 1/SC 22 instructs its Chair to discuss the following outstanding
resolutions from the 2005 JTC 1/SC 22 Plenary with ITTF:

=B7 JTC 1/SC 22 Resolution 05-01 requests that all documents approved for=

free availability should be listed as so on the ISO On-Line Store=20

=B7 JTC 1/SC 22 Resolution 05-06 describes the following process by which=

Project Editors and ITTF Editors can work together to modify JTC 1/SC 2=
2
  texts:

      1. The project editor sends the approved format file (currently PDF=
)
together with any additional source files necessary for ITTF to
         note and verify changes.=20

      2. The ITTF lists the changes it requires.=20

      3. The project editor constructs a new approved format and source
         files and sends them.=20

      4. Steps 2. and 3. are repeated until no changes are needed.=20
     =20
This process has not yet been accepted by ITTF.=20

=B7 JTC 1/SC 22 Resolution 05-16 requests that the ISO/IEC 9945 standard
series be packaged as a single POSIX package for sale in the ISO On-Lin=
e
  Store=20

=B7 That a clarification document outlining the requirements for free
  availability be created.=20

JTC 1/SC 22 instructs its Chair to report on these topics no later than t=
he
2007 JTC 1/SC 22 Plenary.=20

Unanimously approved=20
