Computer pioneer Bob Bemer died "last Tuesday" (22 Jun 2004?) at age 84. His obit quoted from Washington Post was
reprinted prominently in the San Jose Mercury News.

He "invented" ASCII, and he warned about the Y2K problem (and its relatives - specifically, the false economy of a
2-digit year code) at least as early as 1971.
